Minecraft concrete stairs and slabs in all colors

Minecraft builders can finally create colorful steps, roofs, seating and layered walls without depending on mods or mismatched substitute blocks. Concrete stairs and concrete slabs were officially added in Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 7, with variants for all 16 existing concrete colors.

Mojang released Snapshot 7 for Java Edition on August 4, 2026. The studio described concrete stairs and slabs as part of the final set of features entering testing for the Minecraft 26.3 game drop.

This guide explains the crafting recipes, available colors, Java and Bedrock status, survival process, commands and the best ways to use concrete stairs and slabs in your builds.

Quick answer: Place six matching concrete blocks in a stair-shaped crafting pattern to make four concrete stairs. Place three matching concrete blocks in one horizontal row to make six concrete slabs. At the time of writing, these blocks are available for testing in Minecraft Java Edition 26.3 Snapshot 7.

What Are Concrete Stairs and Slabs in Minecraft?

All Minecraft concrete stair and slab variants

Concrete stairs and slabs are shaped versions of the normal concrete block.

A concrete stair occupies only part of a full block and can form steps, corners, roofs, seats and decorative slopes. A concrete slab is half the height of a normal block and can be placed as a bottom slab, top slab or combined into a double slab.

Their main advantage is their appearance. Concrete has a smooth texture and one of Minecraft’s strongest color selections. Before Snapshot 7, players who wanted a bright red, blue, cyan or black staircase normally had to substitute wool, terracotta, quartz or another material that did not perfectly match the surrounding concrete.

The new blocks allow players to continue the same color and texture across full blocks, half blocks and stair shapes.

Snapshot 7 also added dedicated block and item tags for concrete stairs and concrete slabs, confirming that the new shapes are treated as complete block families.

When Were Concrete Stairs and Slabs Added?

Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 7 concrete blocks

Concrete stairs and slabs entered Java Edition testing in Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 7, published on August 4, 2026.

The snapshot added:

  • Concrete stairs for every concrete color
  • Concrete slabs for every concrete color
  • New explorer maps inside abandoned camps
  • Unique item icons for several explorer-map types
  • Updated map navigation and player-direction icons

Mojang’s announcement specifically states that stairs and slabs were added for all concrete blocks.

However, Snapshot 7 is a development version—not a stable Minecraft release. Recipes, textures, block behavior and item names can still be adjusted before Minecraft 26.3 launches.

To test the blocks, open the official Minecraft Launcher, select Installations, enable Snapshots and create an installation using the latest snapshot.

Do not immediately open your main survival world. Mojang warns that testing versions can corrupt worlds, so create a backup or use a separate test world.

How to Craft Concrete Stairs

Minecraft concrete stairs crafting recipe

You need six hardened concrete blocks of the same color to craft concrete stairs.

Arrange the blocks inside a crafting table like this:

  • Top row: one block in the left slot
  • Middle row: blocks in the left and center slots
  • Bottom row: three blocks across the entire row

The recipe produces four concrete stairs in the matching color.

For example:

  • Six white concrete blocks make white concrete stairs.
  • Six red concrete blocks make red concrete stairs.
  • Six cyan concrete blocks make cyan concrete stairs.

You cannot mix several colors in the same recipe. Every ingredient must be the same concrete variant.

Concrete powder also cannot replace normal concrete. You must harden the powder with water and mine the resulting concrete before using the stair recipe.

Once placed, concrete stairs can face north, south, east or west. Their shape can automatically change into normal stairs, inner corners or outer corners depending on nearby stair placement. Aim at the upper half of a block to place an upside-down stair.

How to Craft Concrete Slabs

Minecraft concrete slab crafting recipe

Place three concrete blocks of the same color in one horizontal row of a crafting table.

You may use the top, middle or bottom crafting row. The recipe produces six matching concrete slabs.

A slab placed against the lower half of a block becomes a bottom slab. A slab placed against the upper half becomes a top slab. Two matching slabs placed in the same space create a double slab.

Concrete slabs are particularly useful for:

  • Low platforms
  • Thin shelves
  • Pavement edges
  • Shallow roofs
  • Counters and tables
  • Layered walls
  • Gradual height changes

Because three blocks produce six slabs, they are also more material-efficient than using full concrete blocks for every surface.

All 16 Concrete Stair and Slab Colors

All 16 Minecraft concrete stair and slab colors

Snapshot 7 adds stairs and slabs for all 16 standard concrete colors:

White, light gray, gray, black, brown, red, orange, yellow, lime, green, cyan, light blue, blue, purple, magenta and pink.

That gives builders:

  • 16 concrete stair variants
  • 16 concrete slab variants
  • 32 new shaped concrete blocks in total

Neutral colors such as white, light gray, gray and black work well in modern houses, roads, laboratories and industrial builds.

Brown, red, orange and yellow are suitable for autumn builds, warm interiors, shop signs and decorative roofs.

Green, cyan, light blue and blue work well in aquatic bases, stadium seating, swimming pools and futuristic structures.

Purple, magenta and pink can be used for fantasy builds, neon cities, magical towers and colorful interiors.

Concrete’s simple texture also makes it useful for logos, pixel art and large builds that need to remain readable from a distance.

Java and Bedrock Availability

Concrete stairs availability in Java and Bedrock

Java Edition

Concrete stairs and slabs are available in Minecraft Java Edition 26.3 Snapshot 7.

They are still test features and are not part of the current stable Java release. Players must enable snapshots through the Minecraft Launcher to access them.

Bedrock Edition

As of August 5, 2026, Mojang’s latest published Bedrock Preview notes include other Drop 3 features such as wool stairs, wool slabs, cushions, straw beds, abandoned camps and the Dappled Forest. Those published notes do not yet announce concrete stairs or concrete slabs.

This does not mean Bedrock Edition will never receive them. Java snapshots and Bedrock Previews sometimes receive new features on different dates.

Bedrock players should wait for an official Preview or Beta changelog rather than assuming that an add-on is part of the vanilla update.

Concrete Blocks Versus Concrete Powder

Concrete powder turning into concrete with water

Concrete stairs and slabs must be crafted from hardened concrete, not concrete powder.

Concrete powder is affected by gravity and falls when it is unsupported, much like sand and gravel. It transforms into concrete when it makes contact with water.

Hardened concrete:

  • Is not affected by gravity
  • Has a smoother texture
  • Can be mined and collected
  • Can be used to craft stairs and slabs

To make concrete powder, combine:

  • Four sand
  • Four gravel
  • One dye

This produces eight concrete powder blocks in the selected color.

Place the concrete powder in contact with water to harden it. Rain does not convert concrete powder, so the block must directly touch a water source or flowing water.

After it hardens, mine it with a pickaxe and use the collected concrete in the stair or slab recipe.

Best Building Uses for Concrete Stairs and Slabs

Minecraft builds using concrete stairs and slabs

The biggest benefit of concrete stairs and slabs is greater design control. Full concrete cubes can make detailed builds feel flat, thick or boxy. The new shapes introduce slopes, corners and thin layers while keeping the same clean texture.

Modern houses

White and light gray stairs can create entrances, balcony borders and smooth rooflines. Black slabs work well as window frames, counters and floating shelves.

Stadiums and arenas

Colored concrete stairs can form proper seating rows without using wool or mismatched materials. Different colors can separate teams, sections and spectator areas.

Roads and cities

Gray slabs are useful for curbs, pavements, road dividers and raised platforms. Yellow and white slabs can add markings or decorative edges.

Furniture

Upside-down stairs can form armrests, while slabs can create desks, tables, kitchen counters and television units. Concrete stairs may also be combined with the new cushion item to make colorful chairs and sofas.

Roofs and gradients

Concrete stairs make smoother roof slopes possible. Slabs can add depth to layered walls and color gradients without making every section a full block thick.

Builders can now create transitions through white, light gray, gray and black or use brighter colors for signs, logos and neon-style details.

How to Get Concrete Stairs and Slabs in Survival

Making concrete stairs and slabs in Minecraft Survival

The complete survival process has four stages:

  1. Collect sand and gravel.
  2. Obtain or craft the required dye.
  3. Craft concrete powder.
  4. Harden the powder with water and mine the concrete.

You need four sand, four gravel and one dye for every eight concrete powder blocks.

After converting the powder into normal concrete, use six matching blocks for stairs or three matching blocks for slabs.

Plan your materials before beginning a large build. The stair recipe returns fewer stairs than the number of concrete blocks used, while slabs double the number of placeable half blocks.

For large projects, create a simple concrete converter beside flowing water. Place powder where it immediately touches the water, then mine the hardened blocks with a pickaxe. This is faster than converting each block separately.

Commands for Concrete Stairs and Slabs

Minecraft concrete stair and slab commands

Creative players and map makers can use the /give command to obtain the new blocks instantly.

Give white concrete stairs:

/give @p minecraft:white_concrete_stairs 64

Give white concrete slabs:

/give @p minecraft:white_concrete_slab 64

Replace white with any supported concrete color.

Examples include:

/give @p minecraft:red_concrete_stairs 64

/give @p minecraft:cyan_concrete_slab 64

/give @p minecraft:black_concrete_stairs 64

Because these item identifiers belong to a development snapshot, retest commands after later snapshots or the final Minecraft 26.3 release.
