🤖 Armor Trim Quick Facts (Minecraft 1.21)

  • What they do: Armor trims are purely cosmetic overlays applied at a Smithing Table. They do not increase armor stats, durability, or protection.
  • Total Trims: There are exactly 18 unique armor trim patterns currently in Minecraft.
  • Rarest Trim: The Silence Armor Trim is the rarest trim, found exclusively in Ancient Cities with a 1.2% drop chance.
  • Duplication: Any armor trim can be duplicated in a Crafting Table using 1 Smithing Template + 7 Diamonds + 1 Base Material Block.

What Are Armor Trims in Minecraft? 🛡️

Armor trims are decorative overlays applied to your gear. To create them, you need three components at a Smithing Table:

  1. Smithing Template: Controls the actual design/pattern (e.g., Sentry, Flow, Silence).
  2. Armor Piece: The gear you are upgrading (works on Leather, Chainmail, Iron, Gold, Diamond, Netherite, and Turtle Shells).
  3. Trim Material: Controls the color of the pattern (e.g., Amethyst for purple, Emerald for green).

How to Duplicate Armor Trims in Survival 💎

Smithing templates are consumed upon use. Because trims like Silence and Spire are incredibly hard to find, you should always duplicate them before applying them to your gear.

The Duplication Recipe: Place 1 Smithing Template in the top-middle of a Crafting Table, put the Specific Base Block (see our table above) directly below it, and surround the rest of the grid with 7 Diamonds. This will yield 2 Smithing Templates.

Armor Trims on Bedrock vs Java Servers 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

Whether you play on Java Edition or Bedrock Edition, armor trims function exactly the same visually. They are fantastic for multiplayer servers allowing you to create custom faction uniforms, PvP kits, or rare event rewards.

Note for Map Makers: While our generator provides instant NBT /give commands for Java 1.21+, Bedrock command syntax currently does not expose the same component data. Bedrock players should use our tool to visually plan their combinations and build them manually in-game.
