Why Does the Straw Bed Not Set Your Spawn Point?

The Straw Bed deliberately separates sleeping from respawning. It changes night to morning when the normal sleeping conditions are satisfied, but it does not save that location as the place where you will return after death.

Your previous valid spawn therefore remains unchanged. If you used a normal bed at your base, a Straw Bed will not overwrite it. Without a valid personal spawn, the game uses its normal fallback location, such as world spawn.

It is therefore a travel supply, not a replacement for the reusable bed in a permanent home.

Choose a normal bed when building a home, village shelter or permanent outpost where you want to respawn. Carry Straw Beds when exploring distant biomes, searching for structures, mapping new terrain or travelling between temporary camps.

Where to Find Straw Beds and Their Best Uses

Straw Beds can also be found in Abandoned Camps. These Overworld structures contain tents, storage containers and survival supplies, making them a natural place to collect travel gear.

The best uses for Straw Beds include:

• Long trips to find a Dappled Forest, Ancient City or Woodland Mansion.
• Seed exploration where you do not want to move your home spawn.
• Mapping large areas over several in-game days.
• Temporary mining or construction camps.
• Multiplayer expeditions away from a shared base.

For a short journey near home, a normal reusable bed may be cheaper. Straw Beds become valuable when protecting your established spawn matters more than conserving Wheat.

What Happens in the Nether or the End?

You cannot sleep in a Straw Bed in the Nether or the End. According to Mojang’s official notes, attempting to use it in either dimension destroys the item. Do not carry one as a replacement for a Respawn Anchor, and do not expect it to function as a reusable Nether sleeping solution.

Treat it as an Overworld exploration supply. Use a properly charged Respawn Anchor when you need a Nether respawn point.
